
Antonio Verdejo-García, Ph.D
Dr. Antonio Verdejo-García is Professor and Head of the Addiction and Mental Health program at the Turner Institute for Brain and Mental Health at Monash University, Melbourne. Previously he was Professor of Psychology at the University of Granada (2007-2012), where he received the Excellence in Research Award for his work on neuropsychological impairments associated with drug use, and Juan de la Cierva post-doctoral fellow researcher at the Institut Hospital del Mar d’Investigacions Mediques en Barcelona (2006-2007). Trained in Psychology at the University of Granada, he specialized in the areas of neuropsychology and addiction during his pre- and post-doctoral training in the USA (Johns Hopkins University and University of Iowa) and the UK (University of Cambridge).
He is the author of over 250 articles that have attracted thousands of citations. He is currently recipient of a fellowship from the Australian Government Medical Research Future Fund, Deputy Director of the Turner Institute Addiction and Mental Health Program, and Co-Chair of the International Society of Addiction Medicine Neuroscience Interest Group.
He has actively participated in the training of young Spanish researchers in his group at Monash University, and has experience in popularizing science through documentary films (The science of addiction), public conferences (“Brain and food addiction”), webinars and press articles. He is a member of the Spanish Young Academy.
